Working from home

The days when we had the luxury of working 9am – 5.30pm Monday to Friday and then back home leaving our worries at the office, are long behind us.  The need to access information 365/24/7 is now the norm.  The snow that stopped many of us reaching our offices and the prospect of strikes with our transport system are realities.

So if we are at home and stuck because of the snow/strikes etc or maybe evenings/weekends and we need to work, what do we do?  Remote Access is the answer.  This very simple solution will enable, where necessary, your team to work from home.

This will allow your practice to have a distinct edge on receiving and sending information seamlessly.  Also, whilst working from home all information generated is logged on your server and recorded.  However there are correct ways and incorrect ways to this.

The incorrect way is for people to use their personal/family PC/laptop with one of the supermarket broad-bands. The flexibility and competitive advantage offered by working from home has led to many companies asking their staff to use their personal PC’s.  This can lead to headaches, especially if children also have access to the same PC.

Therefore, we outline our recommendations to access office data effortlessly and flawlessly:  Firstly, Wildings recommend a professional setup (see details as below).  If this is in place we can extend full support both remotely and onsite.  Holiday homes excluded, if not within our coverage, but remote can be anywhere in the world.

What you require:

1. Access to a business level internet service with a static IP address (usually only £5 - £10 per month extra, than supermarket ISP’s).
Family’s can still access this through their own PC’s and laptops.  This can also be used for personal use for the family PC/laptop.  The reason for paying extra for business level is a higher level of support if/when it goes wrong.  Why business level you may ask?  Because it is more reliable, more robust and with extra security.
2. Business dedicated laptop or PC.
3. Business level grade router with inbuilt wireless (approx price £185)
4. Business level operating system (Windows 7 Professional or XP Profession Vista).

Once a business solution is in place, Wildings are happy to give the same level of support as your offices.  You can appreciate the problems we get where a business level or remote working is not in place and why we can only offer support on a business solution.

If you are interested, please contact our office and we will happily visit the home concerned and give our recommendation.   If you have the telephone number handy we can also give you what speeds the recipient will have access too.

NB.  Some remote parts of the country will not have internet speeds capable of remote working.
